Vegetable Gardening

Vegetable Gardening

Growing vegetables is a great way to enjoy your garden. It is also a great way to get kids interested in the garden and in eating vegetables (just don’t tell them that bit!!!)

If you are new to vegetable gardening then simply get stuck in. Pick a piece of ground in a reasonably sunny spot and get it dug over. Add some organic manure or compost & fertiliser such as pelleted chicken manure.

If you don’t have suitable ground, (or any ground) then get as large a plant pot as possible and fill with compost. Check out this video on the subject:

Planning

Its a good idea to plan what you are going to sow or plant before you buy the seeds. If you’re starting out I recommend sticking to easy to grow veg. The planners below give details on some of these easy grow veg and of course, read the packets when you are ready to sow out.

For some veg, it is easier to buy seedlings (young plants) and then plant them out in your veg bed or pots. In the planner below, if the description is to “plant” rather than “sow,” then that’s the easier way to go.

Going Further

In the pictures below you can see examples of larger scale vegetable gardening and how landscape fabric can be used to create a fairly low maintenance vegetable plot.
